A. God's care of young children:MAT 18:10. Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. 1COR 7:14. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. B. Their early training will guide them all through life:PRO 22:6. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. C. Give the care & training of your children priority: MAR 7:27. But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs. D. If you neglect them for other things you'll both suffer:PRO 29:15. The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame. 1KI 20:40. And as thy servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said unto him, So shall thy judgment be; thyself hast decided it. MAT 23:23. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. E. You should teach your children the Word:DEU 6:6. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: DEU 6:7. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. DEU 11:18. Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. DEU 11:19. And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. DEU 11:20. That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: 1JO 2:13. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. F. Teach your children to trust in God:PSA 22:9. But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts. PSA 34:11. Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. PSA 78:6. That the generation to come might know them, even the children which should be born; who should arise and declare them to their children: PSA 78:7. That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments: ACT 2:39. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call. HEB 2:13. And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me. G. Lead them to receive Jesus:MAR 10:14. But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. GAL 4:19. My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you, 1JO 2:12. I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. H. God's Word teaches them how to have eternal life:JOH 5:39. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 2TIM 3:15. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. I. Only God can teach life's most important lessons:PSA 25:5. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. PRO 8:32. Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. PRO 8:33. Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. ISA 54:13. And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. JOH 6:45. It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me. 1COR 2:13. Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. J. Children worshipping with their parents:JOS 8:35. There was not a word of all that Moses commanded, which Joshua read not before all the congregation of Israel, with the women, and the little ones, and the strangers that were conversant among them. 2CH 20:13. And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children. JOE 2:12. Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: JOE 2:15.
