A. Does God dwell in church buildings?1KI 8:27. But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? ISA 66:1. Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest? HOS 8:14. For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof. ACT 7:48. Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, HEB 9:24. For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: B. The early church only had homes to meet in: (SeeROM 16:3. Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: ROM 16:5. Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ. 1COR 16:19. The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. COL 4:15. Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. C. Your body is the true temple of the Holy Spirit:JOH 4:20. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. JOH 4:21. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. JOH 4:22. Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. JOH 4:23. But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. JOH 4:24. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. 1COR 3:16. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 1COR 6:19. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 2COR 6:16. And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. D. The true church is the body of believers:ACT 2:41. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. ACT 2:42. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. ACT 2:43. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. ACT 2:44. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; ACT 2:45. And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. ACT 2:46. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, ACT 2:47. Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. ROM 12:4. For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: ROM 12:5. So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 1COR 12:13. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 1COR 12:14. For the body is not one member, but many. 1COR 12:15. If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 1COR 12:16. And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 1COR 12:17. If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? 1COR 12:18. But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 1COR 12:19. And if they were all one member, where were the body? 1COR 12:20. But now are they many members, yet but one body. 1COR 12:21. And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. 1COR 12:22. Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: 1COR 12:23. And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 1COR 12:24. For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked. 1COR 12:25. That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 1COR 12:26. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. 1COR 12:27. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 1COR 12:28. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. COL 1:18. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. COL 1:24. Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church: 1PE 2:5. Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 1COR 10:17. For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread. EPH 4:4. There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; EPH 4:12. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: EPH 4:15. But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: EPH 4:16. From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. |
