2TI 4:16. At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.

2TI 4:17. Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

PSA 27:10. When my father and my mother forsake me, then the LORD will take me up.

PSA 34:22. The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

PSA 142:4. I looked on my right hand, and beheld, but there was no man that would know me: refuge failed me; no man cared for my soul.

PSA 142:5. I cried unto thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.

ISA 54:1. Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.

ISA 54:5. For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

ISA 54:6. For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.

ISA 54:10. For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.

HEB 13:5. Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

B. His special care for the brokenhearted:

PSA 34:18. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

PSA 51:17. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

PSA 61:2. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

PSA 147:3. He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

EZE 34:16. I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

ISA 61:1. The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

LUK 4:18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

ISA 57:15. For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

C. When suffering bereavement over the loss of a loved one:

2SA 12:15. And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.

2SA 12:16. David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

2SA 12:17. And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

2SA 12:18. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

2SA 12:19. But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

2SA 12:20. Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.

2SA 12:21. Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.

2SA 12:22. And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

2SA 12:23. But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

1CO 15:17. And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

1CO 15:18. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished.

1CO 15:19. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

1CO 15:20. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

1CO 15:21. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

1TH 4:13. But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

1TH 4:14. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

1TH 4:15. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

1TH 4:16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

1TH 4:17. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

1TH 4:18. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

D. It is much better for them to be with the Lord:

2CO 5:8. We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

PHI 1:23. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

REV 7:16. They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat.

REV 7:17. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.

E. When suffering remorse over mistakes or sins:

PSA 31:9. Have mercy upon me, O LORD, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly.

PSA 31:10. For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

PSA 31:11. I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.

PSA 31:12. I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.

PSA 31:13. For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

PSA 31:14. But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.

PSA 31:15. My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.

PSA 31:16. Make thy face to shine upon thy servant: save me for thy mercies' sake.

PSA 31:17. Let me not be ashamed, O LORD; for I have called upon thee: let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave.

PSA 31:18. Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous.

PSA 31:19. Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!

PSA 31:20. Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

PSA 31:21. Blessed be the LORD: for he hath shewed me his marvellous kindness in a strong city.

PSA 31:22. For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before thine eyes: nevertheless thou heardest the voice of my supplications when I cried unto thee.

PSA 31:23. O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer.

PSA 31:24. Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.

PSA 38:1. O lord, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.

PSA 38:2. For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.

PSA 38:3. There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.

PSA 38:4. For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.

PSA 38:5. My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.

PSA 38:6. I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.

PSA 38:7. For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.

PSA 38:8. I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.

PSA 38:9. Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

PSA 38:10. My heart panteth, my strength faileth me: as for the light of mine eyes, it also is gone from me.

PSA 38:11. My lovers and my friends stand aloof from my sore; and my kinsmen stand afar off.

PSA 38:12. They also that seek after my life lay snares for me: and they that seek my hurt speak mischievous things, and imagine deceits all the day long.

PSA 38:13. But I, as a deaf man, heard not; and I was as a dumb man that openeth not his mouth.

PSA 38:14. Thus I was as a man that heareth not, and in whose mouth are no reproofs.

PSA 38:15. For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.

PSA 38:16. For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.

PSA 38:17. For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.

PSA 38:18. For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.

PSA 38:19. But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.

PSA 38:20. They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.

PSA 38:21. Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.

PSA 38:22. Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.

PSA 51:1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

PSA 51:2. Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.

PSA 51:3. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

PSA 51:4. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.

PSA 51:5. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

PSA 51:6. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.

PSA 51:7. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

PSA 51:8. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

PSA 51:9. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.

PSA 51:10. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

PSA 51:11. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

PSA 51:12. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

PSA 51:13. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

PSA 51:14. Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

PSA 51:15. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.

PSA 51:16. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.

PSA 51:17. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

PSA 51:18. Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

PSA 51:19. Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.

LAM 1:20. Behold, O LORD; for I am in distress: my bowels are troubled; mine heart is turned within me; for I have grievously rebelled: abroad the sword bereaveth, at home there is as death.

LUK 18:13. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

LUK 18:14. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

2CO 2:6. Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many.

2CO 2:7. So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow.

2CO 2:8. Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.

MAT 26:69. Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

MAT 26:70. But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

MAT 26:71. And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

MAT 26:72. And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

MAT 26:73. And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

MAT 26:74. Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

MAT 26:75. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

MAR 16:6. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
