A. A follower of the teaching & the Master Teacher:MAT 10:24. The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. MAT 10:25. It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of his household? LUK 6:40. The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. JOH 12:26. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. JOH 13:15. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 1PE 2:21. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: B. A disciple abides (lives dwells) in Jesus:JOH 15:4. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. JOH 15:9. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. JOH 15:10. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. 1JO 2:6. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. 1JO 3:24. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us. 2COR 5:17. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 1JO 2:5. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 1JO 2:10. He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 1JO 2:24. Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father. 1JO 2:28. And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. C. A disciple serves Jesus out of love & gratitude:EXO 21:5. And if the servant shall plainly say, I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free: EXO 21:6. Then his master shall bring him unto the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post; and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul; and he shall serve him for ever. JOH 14:21. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. JOH 14:23. Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. 1COR 6:19. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 1COR 6:20. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 2COR 5:14. For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: EPH 5:1. Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; EPH 5:2. And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour. PHI 1:21. For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. D. A disciple must love Jesus above all else & all others:MAT 6:24. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. MAT 10:37. He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. LUK 14:26. If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. PHI 3:8. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, |
