  • A. Live sacrificially without private ownership:

    ACT 2:44. And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

    ACT 2:45. And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

    ACT 4:32. And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

    ACT 4:33. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

    ACT 4:34. Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

    ACT 4:35. And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

    MAT 5:42. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

    LUK 3:11. He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

    LUK 6:30. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

    1TIMM 6:7. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

    1TIMM 6:8. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

    LUK 9:23. And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

    LUK 9:24. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

    LUK 9:25. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?

    LUK 9:26. For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.

    B. Disciples must be willing to endure hardships:

    LUK 9:57. And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.

    LUK 9:58. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.

    2TIM 2:3. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

    2COR 11:23. Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft.

    2COR 11:24. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one.

    2COR 11:25. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep;

    2COR 11:26. In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by mine own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;

    2COR 11:27. In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

    2COR 11:28. Beside those things that are without, that which cometh upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

    C. Including persecution:

    PHI 1:29. For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

    2TIM 3:12. Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.

    ACT 15:26. Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    JOH 16:33. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

    D. Willing to literally die for Jesus:

    ACT 21:13. Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.

    PHI 1:20. According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

    ACT 20:24. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

    HEB 11:35. Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:

    HEB 11:36. And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

    HEB 11:37. They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented;

    HEB 11:38. (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserts, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

    REV 12:11. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

    E. Willing to sacrifice marriage for God's work:

    1COR 7:29. But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

    1COR 7:32. But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

    1COR 7:33. But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

    1COR 7:34. There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.
