  • A. It puts extra strain on others:

PHI 2:30. Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

    B. God will see to it that we become poor:

PRO 11:24. There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.

PRO 13:7. There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

PRO 28:27. He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

    C. It shows we lack Christian love:

JAM 2:15. If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

JAM 2:16. And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

1JOH 3:17. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

1JOH 3:18. My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

    D. When we give stingily or dishonestly:

2COR 9:6. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.

MAL 1:7. Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.

MAL 1:8. And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.

MAL 1:9. And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious unto us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your persons? saith the LORD of hosts.

MAL 1:10. Who is there even among you that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.

MAL 1:13. Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.

MAL 1:14. But cursed be the deceiver, which hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth unto the LORD a corrupt thing: for I am a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name is dreadful among the heathen.

MAL 1:8. And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.

ACT 5:1. But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

ACT 5:2. And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

ACT 5:9. Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

ACT 5:10. Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

    E. Beware of covetousness & greed:

LUK 12:15. And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

1TIM 6:10. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

PRO 28:16. The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

ECC 5:10. He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

JAM 5:1. Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

JAM 5:2. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

JAM 5:3. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

JAM 5:4. Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

JAM 5:5. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

ECC 5:13. There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt.

ECC 5:15. As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.

ACT 5:1. But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

ACT 5:2. And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

ACT 5:3. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

ACT 5:4. Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

ACT 5:5. And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

ACT 5:6. And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

ACT 5:7. And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.

ACT 5:8. And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
