  • A. The Holy Spirit anoints us with power to witness:

    ACT 1:8. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

    LUK 4:18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

    ISA 61:1. The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

    ISA 61:2. To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

    JOH 15:26. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

    ACT 4:29. And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word,

    ACT 4:31. And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

    ACT 5:32. And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

    MIC 3:8. But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

    B. Transforms us into a new person:

    1SA 10:6. And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

    PSA 51:10. Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

    PSA 51:11. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.

    PSA 51:12. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

    PSA 51:13. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

    C. Gives us a closer relationship with Jesus:

    EPH 5:18. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

    EPH 5:19. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

    JOH 14:16. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

    JOH 14:17. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot

    receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye

    know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

    JOH 14:18. I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

    D. Minding the things of the Spirit brings life & peace:

    ROM 8:5. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

    ROM 8:6. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

    ROM 8:7. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

    GAL 5:16. This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

    GAL 5:17. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

    E. The Spirit brings forth virtues in our lives:

    GAL 5:22. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

    GAL 5:23. Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

    ROM 5:5. And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

    ROM 14:17. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

    ROM 15:13. Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

    1COR 12:4. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

    1COR 12:5. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.

    1COR 12:6. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

    1COR 12:7. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.

    1COR 12:8. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;

    1COR 12:9. To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;

    1COR 12:10. To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:

    1COR 12:11. But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.

    F. The Holy Spirit comforts us:

    JOH 14:16. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;

    JOH 14:26. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

    JOH 16:7. Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

    ACT 9:31. Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied.

    ROM 8:1. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

    1PE 4:14. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

    G. The Holy Spirit & prayer:

    ROM 8:26. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

    ROM 8:27. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

    JUDE 20. But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,

    H. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth:

    JOH 16:13. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

    1JOH 5:6. This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

    JOH 14:17. Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

    JOH 15:26. But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

    JOH 16:13. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
