A. The concision: Believers still bound by the law:ACT 21:20. And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law: PHI 3:2. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision. PHI 3:3. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. ACT 15:1. And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. ACT 15:24. Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment: GAL 6:12. As many as desire to make a fair shew in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised; only lest they should suffer persecution for the cross of Christ. GAL 6:13. For neither they themselves who are circumcised keep the law; but desire to have you circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. ROM 2:28. For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: ROM 2:29. But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. B. Don't be entangled again by the law:GAL 3:1. O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? GAL 3:3. Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? GAL 5:1. Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. COL 2:20. Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, COL 2:21. (Touch not; taste not; handle not; COL 2:22. Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? C. Legalism is self-righteousness & denies Jesus' sacrifice:ROM 10:3. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. GAL 2:21. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. GAL 5:4. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. D. The law can't save you or make you righteous:ACT 13:39. And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. ROM 9:31. But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. ROM 9:32. Wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at that stumblingstone; PHI 3:3. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh. PHI 3:4. Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: PHI 3:5. Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; PHI 3:6. Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless. PHI 3:7. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. PHI 3:8. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, PHI 3:9. And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: E. Those who attempt to obey the law are under bondage:GAL 3:10. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. GAL 4:21. Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? GAL 4:22. For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. GAL 4:23. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. GAL 4:24. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. GAL 4:25. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. GAL 4:26. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. GAL 4:27. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. GAL 4:28. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise. GAL 4:29. But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now. GAL 4:30. Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. GAL 4:31. So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. GAL 5:2. Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. GAL 5:3. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. GAL 5:4. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace. JAM 2:10. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. |
