A. Putting love into action:MAT 14:14. And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick. MAT 25:35. For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: LUK 6:31. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. LUK 10:30. And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. LUK 10:31. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. LUK 10:32. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. LUK 10:33. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, LUK 10:34. And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. LUK 10:35. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. GAL 6:10. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. 1JOH 3:18. My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth. 2JOH 6. And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. B. Sacrificial love giving our lives for others:JOH 15:13. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 1JOH 3:16. Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. ACT 15:25. It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul, ACT 15:26. Men that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. ACT 20:24. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God. PHI 2:30. Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me. C. Be concerned about others' welfare; not just your own:1COR 13:5. Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; PHI 2:4. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 1TH 4:9. But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another. D. Selfishness shows a lack of love:1JOH 3:17. But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? JAM 4:17. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin. E. Doing good to our brethren is doing it to Jesus:MAT 25:35. For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: MAT 25:36. Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. MAT 25:37. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? MAT 25:38. When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? MAT 25:39. Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? MAT 25:40. And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. HEB 6:10. For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. EPH 6:5. Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ; EPH 6:6. Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart; EPH 6:7. With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: EPH 6:8. Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. COL 3:22. Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God; COL 3:23. And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; COL 3:24. Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. F. Failing to do good to our brethren is failing to do it to Jesus:MAT 25:41. Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: MAT 25:42. For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: MAT 25:43. I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not. MAT 25:44. Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee? MAT 25:45. Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. |
