8. Special categories of love:

A. We are to love all men:

MAT 5:46. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

MAT 5:47. And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

LUK 6:32. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

LUK 6:33. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

1TH 3:12. And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:

HEB 12:14. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

B. We are to especially love brothers & sisters in the Lord:

JOH 13:35. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

GAL 6:10. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

1PE 2:17. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

HEB 13:1. Let brotherly love continue.

1PE 4:8. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

TIT 3:15. All that are with me salute thee. Greet them that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen

2JO 1:1. The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom

I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have

known the truth;

3JO 1:1. The elder unto the well beloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

C. Examples of unusually great love &/or admiration:

1SA 18:1. And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2SA 1:26. I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

MAR 10:17. And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

MAR 10:18. And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

MAR 10:19. Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

MAR 10:20. And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.

MAR 10:21. Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.

JOH 11:3. Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

JOH 11:5. Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

JOH 13:23. Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.

JOH 19:26. When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

JOH 21:7. Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

JOH 21:20. Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; which also leaned on his breast at supper, and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

1TH 5:13. And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

D. We are even to demonstrate God's love to our foes:

PRO 25:21. If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

PRO 25:22. For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

MAT 5:43. Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.

MAT 5:44. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

MAT 5:45. That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

MAT 5:46. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

MAT 5:47. And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

LUK 6:27. But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

LUK 6:28. Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

LUK 6:29. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.

LUK 6:30. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

LUK 6:32. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

LUK 6:33. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

LUK 6:34. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

LUK 6:35. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

LUK 10:30. And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.

LUK 10:31. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.

LUK 10:32. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

LUK 10:33. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,

LUK 10:34. And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.

LUK 10:35. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.

LUK 10:36. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?

LUK 10:37. And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.
