MIC 6:8. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

A. We should forgive others as God has forgiven us:

MAT 18:33. Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?

LUK 6:36. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

EPH 4:32. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

COL 3:13. Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

B. Have longsuffering & great mercy & keep forgiving:

LUK 17:4. And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

MAT 18:21. Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?

MAT 18:22. Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

PRO 17:9. He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.

C. Make mercy a rule in your heart:

PRO 3:3. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:

PRO 3:4. So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

D. Forgive sincerely; don't harbour grudges or hatred:

LEV 19:17. Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

LEV 19:18. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

MAT 18:35. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

EPH 4:31. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

EPH 4:32. And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

HEB 12:15. Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

JAM 5:9. Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

E. God shows mercy to us if we are merciful & forgiving:

PSA 18:25. With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;

MAT 5:7. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

MAT 18:25. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.

MAT 18:26. The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.

MAT 18:30. And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.

MAT 18:31. So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done.

MAT 18:32. Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:

MAT 18:34. And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.

MAT 18:35. So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.

JAM 2:13. For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
