3. A wife's attributes & responsibilities:

A. The Bible's description of a virtuous wife:

PRO 11:16. A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.

PRO 12:4. A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

PRO 19:14. House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.

PRO 31:10. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.

PRO 31:11. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

PRO 31:12. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

PRO 31:28. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

PRO 31:29. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

PRO 31:30. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

PRO 31:31. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates

1TIM 3:11. Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

TIT 2:4. That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,

TIT 2:5. To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

B. Her duty to guide the home & children:

1TIM 5:14. I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.

PSA 128:3. Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

PRO 14:1. Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

PRO 31:27. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

C. Examples of how wives should not be:

PRO 7:11. (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house:

1TIM 5:13. And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.

D. Virtue is more important than physical beauty:

PRO 11:22. As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.

PRO 31:30. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

1PE 3:3. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

1PE 3:4. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
