7. Marriage & lovemaking:
PreviousNext

A. Sex in marriage is pure holy & ordained of God:

HEB 13:4. Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.

1COR 7:28. But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.

1COR 7:29. But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

1COR 7:30. And they that weep, as though they wept not; and they that rejoice, as though they rejoiced not; and they that buy, as though they possessed not;

1COR 7:31. And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away.

1COR 7:32. But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:

1COR 7:33. But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

1COR 7:34. There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.

1COR 7:35. And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.

1COR 7:36. But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin, if she pass the flower of her age, and need so require, let him do what he will, he sinneth not: let them marry.

B. It was ordained for the procreation of the race:

GEN 1:27. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

GEN 1:28. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

MAL 2:15. And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

JER 29:6. Take ye wives, and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters to husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters; that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.

C. In marriage man & woman are joined as one flesh:

GEN 2:23. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

MAR 10:6. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

MAR 10:7. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife;

MAR 10:8. And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.

GEN 2:24. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

1COR 6:16. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.

EPH 5:31. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

D. Conjugal pleasures a gift from God:

PRO 5:18. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

PRO 5:19. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

SON 7:6. How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!

SON 7:7. This thy stature is like to a palm tree, and thy breasts to clusters of grapes.

SON 7:8. I said, I will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of the boughs thereof: now also thy breasts shall be as clusters of the vine, and the smell of thy nose like apples;

SON 7:9. And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth down sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak.

SON 7:10. I am my beloved's, and his desire is toward me.

SON 7:11. Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the field; let us lodge in the villages.

SON 7:12. Let us get up early to the vineyards; let us see if the vine flourish, whether the tender grape appear, and the pomegranates bud forth: there will I give thee my loves.

PSA 19:5. Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.

SON 1:1. The song of songs, which is Solomon's.

SON 1:4. Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

SON 1:13. A bundle of myrrh is my well-beloved unto me; he shall lie all night betwixt my breasts.

SON 2:3. As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

SON 2:6. His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.

SON 2:16. My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.

SON 2:17. Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, turn, my beloved, and be thou like a roe or a young hart upon the mountains of Bether.

SON 4:6. Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.

SON 4:10. How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!

SON 4:11. Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon.

SON 4:12. A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.

SON 4:13. Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard,

SON 4:14. Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices:

SON 4:15. A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.

SON 4:16. Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

SON 5:4. My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him.

SON 5:5. I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with sweet smelling myrrh, upon the handles of the lock.

SON 8:3. His left hand should be under my head, and his right hand should embrace me.

SON 8:14. Make haste, my beloved, and be thou like to a roe or to a young hart upon the mountains of spices

E. Sex is a marital right not to be used to punish or reward:

1COR 7:3. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

1COR 7:4. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

1COR 7:5. Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.

F. Husbands should treat wives with honour & love not merely as sexual objects:

1TH 4:4. That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;

1TH 4:5. Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
