A. Love & care makes a true parent not merely flesh parenthood:1KI 3:26. Then spake the woman whose the living child was unto the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, but divide it. 1KI 3:27. Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she is the mother thereof. PRO 29:21. He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length. B. God blesses the children of obedient godly parents:DEU 12:28. Observe and hear all these words which I command thee, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee for ever, when thou doest that which is good and right in the sight of the LORD thy God. PRO 20:7. The just man walketh in his integrity: his children are blessed after him. PSA 144:12. That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace: C. God may punish parents by afflicting their children:EXO 34:7. Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. EXO 20:5. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; NUM 14:18. The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation. JOB 21:19. God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it. JER 32:18. Thou shewest lovingkindness unto thousands, and recompensest the iniquity of the fathers into the bosom of their children after them: the Great, the Mighty God, the LORD of hosts, is his name, NUM 14:33. And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness. LEV 26:39. And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them. 2SA 12:13. And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. 2SA 12:14. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. 2SA 12:15. And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick. 2SA 12:16. And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead? 2SA 24:17. And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house. ISA 14:21. Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities. D. Severe warning against offending children's faith:MAT 18:6. But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 1COR 8:9. But take heed lest by any means this liberty of your's become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. 1COR 8:11. And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 1COR 8:12. But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. ROM 14:13. Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. ROM 14:14. I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean. ROM 14:15. But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died. ROM 14:16. Let not then your good be evil spoken of: ROM 14:17. For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. ROM 14:18. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men. ROM 14:19. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. ROM 14:20. For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. ROM 14:21. It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. |
