A. Promises of fruitfulness:PSA 92:13. Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. PSA 92:14. They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; B. Material ministering & good deeds:2SA 19:32. Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king of sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man. 2SA 19:33. And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will feed thee with me in Jerusalem. 2SA 19:34. And Barzillai said unto the king, How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem? 2SA 19:35. I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king? 2SA 17:27. And Paul dwelt two whole years in his own hired house, and received all that came in unto him, 2TIM 1:5. When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 2TIM 3:15. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. G. God can use those who think they are too old:GEN 18:10. And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him. GEN 18:11. Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. GEN 18:12. Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also? GEN 18:13. And the LORD said unto Abraham, Wherefore did Sarah laugh, saying, Shall I of a surety bear a child, which am old? GEN 18:14. Is any thing too hard for the LORD? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son. GEN 18:15. Then Sarah denied, saying, I laughed not; for she was afraid. And he said, Nay; but thou didst laugh. GEN 18:16. And the men rose up from thence, and looked toward Sodom: and Abraham went with them to bring them on the way. GEN 18:17. And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; GEN 18:18. Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? GEN 18:19. For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. GEN 18:20. And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous; GEN 18:21. I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know. GEN 18:22. And the men turned their faces from thence, and went toward Sodom: but Abraham stood yet before the LORD. GEN 18:23. And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked? GEN 18:24. Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein? GEN 18:25. That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right? GEN 18:26. And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes. GEN 18:27. And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD, which am but dust and ashes: GEN 18:28. Peradventure there shall lack five of the fifty righteous: wilt thou destroy all the city for lack of five? And he said, If I find there forty and five, I will not destroy it. GEN 18:29. And he spake unto him yet again, and said, Peradventure there shall be forty found there. And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake. GEN 18:30. And he said unto him, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. GEN 18:31. And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the LORD: Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for twenty's sake. GEN 18:32. And he said, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake. GEN 18:33. And the LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham: and Abraham returned unto his place. GEN 17:15. And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. GEN 17:16. And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her. GEN 17:17. Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear? LUK 1:36. And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. H. God sometimes doesn't really use us until we're older & wiser:ACT 7:23. And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. ACT 7:24. And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: ACT 7:25. For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not. ACT 7:26. And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? ACT 7:27. But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? ACT 7:28. Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday? ACT 7:29. Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons. ACT 7:30. And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. ACT 7:31. When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the LORD came unto him, ACT 7:32. Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. ACT 7:33. Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground. ACT 7:34. I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. I. Keep faithfully serving Jesus till our parting day:2PE 1:12. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 2PE 1:13. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 2PE 1:14. Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 2PE 1:15. Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. J. Steadfastly enduring adversity in old age:REV 1:9.
