A. Don't be ignorant of the devil's devices:

GEN 3:1. Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2COR 2:11. Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

EPH 6:11. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

B. The devil is a liar & deceiver:

GEN 3:1. Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

JOH 8:44. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

ACT 5:1. But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

ACT 5:2. And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

ACT 5:3. But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

ACT 5:4. Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

2COR 11:3. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

2COR 11:13. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

2COR 11:14. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

2TH 2:9. Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

2TH 2:10. And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

2TH 2:11. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

JO1 4:1. Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

JO1 1:3. That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

1TIM 4:1. Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

REV 12:9. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

C. The devil tries to turn men from salvation:

MAR 4:15. And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

MAT 13:19. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

LUK 8:12. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.

ACT 13:8. But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

ACT 13:10. And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

2COR 4:4. In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

D. "The hinderer":

ZEC 3:1. And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.

1TH 2:18. Wherefore we would have come unto you, even I Paul, once and again; but Satan hindered us.

E. Specific devices to be on guard against:

MAT 16:21. From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.

MAT 16:22. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee.

MAT 16:23. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.

JOH 13:2. And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him;

ACT 13:10. And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

1COR 14:33. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

COL 1:13. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

2TIM 1:7. For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
