Prayer

3. Prayer promises:
PreviousNext

2PE 1:4. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

A. Remind God of His promises when praying:

GEN 32:6. And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

GEN 32:7. Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;

GEN 32:8. And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.

GEN 32:9. And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

GEN 32:10. I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

GEN 32:11. Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children.

GEN 32:12. And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.

NEH 1:4. And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,

NEH 1:5. And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments:

NEH 1:6. Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father's house have sinned.

NEH 1:7. We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses.

NEH 1:8. Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:

NEH 1:9. But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.

NEH 1:10. Now these are thy servants and thy people, whom thou hast redeemed by thy great power, and by thy strong hand.

NEH 1:11. O LORD, I beseech thee, let now thine ear be attentive to the prayer of thy servant, and to the prayer of thy servants, who desire to fear thy name: and prosper, I pray thee, thy servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man. For I was the king's cupbearer.

B. Some promises to claim in prayer:

PSA 37:4. Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

PSA 37:5. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

ISA 65:24. And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

JER 33:3. Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

JOH 15:7. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

JOH 15:16. Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.

PSA 81:10. I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.

C. The Lord promises to hear prayer:

2SA 22:7. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

PSA 34:15. The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.

PSA 34:17. The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.

PSA 72:12. For he shall deliver the needy when he crieth; the poor also, and him that hath no helper.

PSA 91:15. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.

D. God's blessings for those who seek Him:

2CH 26:5. And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.

2CH 31:21. And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.
