A. Answer to prayer greater than request:1KI 3:7. And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. 1KI 3:8. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. 1KI 3:9. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? 1KI 3:10. And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing. 1KI 3:11. And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment; 1KI 3:12. Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. 1KI 3:13. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. 1KI 3:14. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days. EPH 3:20. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, ACT 12:1. Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church. ACT 12:2. And he killed James the brother of John with the sword. ACT 12:3. And his chains fell off from his hands. ACT 12:8. And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me. ACT 12:9. And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision. ACT 12:10. When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him. ACT 12:11. And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the LORD hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. ACT 12:12. And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. ACT 12:13. And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. ACT 12:14. And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. ACT 12:15. And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. ACT 12:16. But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished. I cry unto thee, and thou dost not hear me: I stand up, and thou regardest me not. PSA 40:1. I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. JER 42:4. Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you. JER 42:7. And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah. LAM 3:25. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. LAM 3:26. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. PSA 62:1. Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. DAN 10:2. In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. DAN 10:12. C. Answer to prayer different from request:DEU 3:23. And I besought the LORD at that time, saying, DEU 3:24. O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might? DEU 3:25. I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon. DEU 3:26. But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter. DEU 3:27. Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan. JOH 11:1. Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. JOH 11:2. (It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.) JOH 11:3. And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. 2COR 12:8. Are not Abana and Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them, and be clean? So he turned and went away in a rage. 2KI 5:13. And his servants came near, and spake unto him, and said, My father, if the prophet had bid thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he saith to thee, Wash, and be clean? D. Beware about insisting that God grant your request:PSA 106:15. And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul. 1SA 8:4. Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, 1SA 8:5. And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations. 1SA 8:6. But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. 1SA 8:7. And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them. 1SA 8:8. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee. 1SA 8:9. Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them. 1SA 8:10. And Samuel told all the words of the LORD unto the people that asked of him a king. 1SA 8:11. And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots. 1SA 8:12. And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots. 1SA 8:13. And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers. 1SA 8:14. And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants. 1SA 8:15. And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants. 1SA 8:16. And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work. 1SA 8:17. He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants. 1SA 8:18. And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the LORD will not hear you in that day. 1SA 8:19. Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; 1SA 8:20. That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles. 1SA 8:21. And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the LORD. 1SA 8:22. And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city. 1SA 12:1. And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you. 1SA 12:13. Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have desired! and, behold, the LORD hath set a king over you. 1SA 12:16. Now therefore stand and see this great thing, which the LORD will do before your eyes. 1SA 12:17. Is it not wheat harvest to day? I will call unto the LORD, and he shall send thunder and rain; that ye may perceive and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of the LORD, in asking you a king. 1SA 12:18. So Samuel called unto the LORD; and the LORD sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel. 1SA 12:19. And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto the LORD thy God, that we die not: for we have added unto all our sins this evil, to ask us a king. |
