A. Follow Jesus' example of humility:MAT 21:5. Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. JOH 13:5. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. JOH 13:12. So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? JOH 13:13. Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. JOH 13:14. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. JOH 13:15. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. LUK 22:27. For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth. PHI 2:5. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: PHI 2:6. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: PHI 2:7. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: PHI 2:8. And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. B. Other examples of true humility:1SA 25:40. And when the servants of David were come to Abigail to Carmel, they spake unto her, saying, David sent us unto thee, to take thee to him to wife. 1SA 25:41. And she arose, and bowed herself on her face to the earth, and said, Behold, let thine handmaid be a servant to wash the feet of the servants of my lord. MAR 7:25. And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs. MAR 7:29. And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter. MAR 7:30. And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: LUK 7:5. For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue. LUK 7:6. Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: LUK 7:7. Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. JOH 1:27. He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose. C. Submit humbly to one another:LUK 22:25. Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; ROM 12:16. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. PHI 2:3. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. E. Be humble when pointing out other's errors:LUK 6:42. Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. GAL 6:1.
