A. Faith in God is essential:PSA 37:40. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him. DAN 6:23. Then was the king exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God. 1PE 1:5. Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. PSA 33:22. Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee. B. You must pray in time of need:GEN 32:1. And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. GEN 32:2. And when Jacob saw them, he said, This is God's host: and he called the name of that place Mahanaim. GEN 32:3. And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom. GEN 32:4. And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now: GEN 32:5. And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight. GEN 32:6. And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him. GEN 32:7. Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands; GEN 32:8. And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape. GEN 32:9. And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee: GEN 32:10. I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands. GEN 32:11. Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children. GEN 32:12. And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude. GEN 32:24. And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. GEN 32:25. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. GEN 32:26. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. GEN 32:27. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. GEN 32:28. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. GEN 32:29. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. GEN 32:30. And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. 2SA 22:4. I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. PSA 34:17. The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. PSA 50:15. And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. PSA 18:6. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. PSA 59:1. Deliver me from mine enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me. PSA 59:2. Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men. PSA 59:3. For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD. C. You must love & fear the Lord:2CH 16:9. For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. PSA 31:23. O love the LORD, all ye his saints: for the LORD preserveth the faithful, and plentifully rewardeth the proud doer. PSA 33:18. Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; PSA 33:19. To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. PSA 34:7. The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. PSA 91:14. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. PSA 91:15. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. PSA 145:20. The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. PRO 16:7. When a man's ways please the LORD, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him. D. You must stay very close to the Lord:PSA 57:1. Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. PSA 91:1. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. E. You must be obedient & do good:EXO 23:22. But if thou shalt indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak; then I will be an enemy unto thine enemies, and an adversary unto thine adversaries. PSA 34:17. The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. PSA 41:1. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. PSA 41:2. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. PSA 81:13. Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways! PSA 81:14. I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries. PRO 1:33. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. DAN 6:16. Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee. 1PE 3:12. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. PSA 7:10. My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart. 1PE 3:13. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? F. The importance of doing your part & obeying:HEB 11:7. By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith. GEN 6:12. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. GEN 6:13. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. GEN 6:14. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. GEN 6:22. Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he. GEN 7:1. And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. GEN 7:11. In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. GEN 7:17. And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth. GEN 7:18. And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. GEN 7:19. And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered. GEN 7:20. Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. GEN 7:21. And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: GEN 7:22. All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. GEN 7:23. And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark. HEB 11:31. By faith the harlot Rahab perished not with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace. JOS 2:4. And the woman took the two men, and hid them, and said thus, There came men unto me, but I wist not whence they were: JOS 2:5. And it came to pass about the time of shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out: whither the men went I wot not: pursue after them quickly; for ye shall overtake them. JOS 2:6. But she had brought them up to the roof of the house, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof. JOS 2:7. And the men pursued after them the way to Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they which pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate. JOS 2:8. And before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof; JOS 2:9. And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. JOS 2:10. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. JOS 2:11. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. JOS 2:12. Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father's house, and give me a true token: JOS 2:13. And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. JOS 2:14. And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee. JOS 2:15. Then she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the town wall, and she dwelt upon the wall. JOS 2:16. And she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way. JOS 2:17. And the men said unto her, We will be blameless of this thine oath which thou hast made us swear. JOS 2:18. Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household, home unto thee. JOS 2:19. And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him. JOS 2:20. And if thou utter this our business, then we will be quit of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear. JOS 2:21. And she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window. EXO 12:21. Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. EXO 12:22. And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. EXO 12:23. For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. G. Don't be reckless foolhardy or disobedient:1KI 22:1. And they continued three years without war between Syria and Israel. 1KI 22:2. And it came to pass in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah came down to the king of Israel. 1KI 22:3. And the king of Israel said unto his servants, Know ye that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, and we be still, and take it not out of the hand of the king of Syria? 1KI 22:4. And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead? And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, I am as thou art, my people as thy people, my horses as thy horses. 1KI 22:29. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead. 1KI 22:30. And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and enter into the battle; but put thou on thy robes. And the king of Israel disguised himself, and went into the battle. 1KI 22:31. But the king of Syria commanded his thirty and two captains that had rule over his chariots, saying, Fight neither with small nor great, save only with the king of Israel. 1KI 22:32. And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, Surely it is the king of Israel. And they turned aside to fight against him: and Jehoshaphat cried out. 1KI 22:33. And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. 1KI 22:34. And a certain man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: wherefore he said unto the driver of his chariot, Turn thine hand, and carry me out of the host; for I am wounded. 1KI 22:35. And the battle increased that day: and the king was stayed up in his chariot against the Syrians, and died at even: and the blood ran out of the wound into the midst of the chariot. 1KI 22:36. And there went a proclamation throughout the host about the going down of the sun, saying, Every man to his city, and every man to his own country. 1KI 22:37. So the king died, and was brought to Samaria; and they buried the king in Samaria. 2CH 35:20. After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Charchemish by Euphrates: and Josiah went out against him. 2CH 35:21. But he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I come not against thee this day, but against the house wherewith I have war: for God commanded me to make haste: forbear thee from meddling with God, who is with me, that he destroy thee not. 2CH 35:22. Nevertheless Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and hearkened not unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight in the valley of Megiddo. 2CH 35:23. And the archers shot at king Josiah; and the king said to his servants, Have me away; for I am sore wounded. 2CH 35:24. His servants therefore took him out of that chariot, and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died, and was buried in one of the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah. PRO 16:5. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. HOS 8:3. Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him. MAT 4:5. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, MAT 4:6. And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. MAT 4:7. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. ACT 19:29. And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre. ACT 19:30. And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not. ACT 19:31. And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre. ACT 21:17. And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly. ACT 21:18. And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present. ACT 21:19. And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry. ACT 21:20. And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law: ACT 21:21. And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs. ACT 21:22. What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come. ACT 21:23. Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them; ACT 21:24. Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law. ACT 21:25. As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. ACT 21:26. Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them. ACT 21:27. And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him, ACT 21:28. Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place. ACT 21:29. (For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) ACT 21:30. And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut. ACT 20:22. And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing the things that shall befall me there: ACT 20:23. Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me. ACT 21:4. And finding disciples, we tarried there seven days: who said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem. ACT 21:10. And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. ACT 21:11. And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. ACT 21:12. And when we heard these things, both we, and they of that place, besought him not to go up to Jerusalem. ACT 21:13. Then Paul answered, What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus. ACT 21:14. And when he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, The will of the Lord be done. |
