A. Fearing God:DEU 10:12. And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, 2KI 17:35. With whom the LORD had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them: 2KI 17:36. But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice. ECC 12:13. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. ISA 8:12. Say ye not, A confederacy, to all them to whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid. ISA 8:13. Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread. LUK 12:4. And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. LUK 12:5. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. MAT 10:28. And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. B. Fearing (reverencing) God is healthy:PSA 19:9. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. PRO 29:25. The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. C. The benefits of fearing God:PSA 111:10. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever. PRO 9:10. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. PRO 1:7. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. PRO 14:26. In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge. PRO 14:27. The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. PRO 16:6. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. D. God's blessings on us for fearing Him:PSA 25:12. What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. PSA 31:19. Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! PSA 103:13. Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him. PSA 147:11. The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy. LUK 1:50. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. ACT 10:35. But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. |
