JOH 15:19. If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. A. We are citizens of Heaven:HEB 11:14. For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. HEB 11:15. And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned. HEB 11:16. But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city. HEB 13:14. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. JOH 14:2. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. JOH 14:3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. JOH 18:36. Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. B. We're sojourners in this world pilgrims passing through:HEB 11:13. These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. PSA 39:12. Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were. PSA 119:19. I am a stranger in the earth: hide not thy commandments from me. C. Earthly lands & homes are only temporary:LEV 25:23. The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine, for ye are strangers and sojourners with me. D. Our life on earth is brief so we do not settle here:1CH 29:15. For we are strangers before thee, and sojourners, as were all our fathers: our days on the earth are as a shadow, and there is none abiding. 1PE 1:17. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: PSA 39:4. LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am. PSA 39:5. Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah. E. Guard against thinking this world is your permanent home:PSA 49:11. Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. PSA 49:12. Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish. |
