A. Try to be good citizens & obey the government:ROM 13:1. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. TIT 3:1. Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, 1PE 2:17. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. B. Most governments & laws are for our good & protection:ACT 21:30. And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut. ACT 21:31. And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar. ACT 21:32. Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul. ACT 21:33. Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done. ACT 21:34. And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle. ACT 21:35. And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the people. ACT 23:10. And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle. ACT 25:15. About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him. ACT 25:16. To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him. C. Pray for the government & officials:ECC 10:20. Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter. 1TIM 2:1. I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; D. Perform required national & community duties:MAT 22:21. They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's. ROM 13:7. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. E. However we must obey God above all:ACT 4:19. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. ACT 4:20. For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. ACT 5:29. Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. |
