Sleep


1. Sleep considered a blessing:

A. Trust in God to bless you with sleep:

PSA 3:5. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.

PSA 4:8. I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

PSA 127:2. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

ECC 5:12. The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

JER 31:26. Upon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.

B. God gives freedom from fear & sweet sleep:

PSA 91:5. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

PRO 3:24. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

ACT 12:6. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

C. The Lord can miraculously give you deep sleep:

GEN 2:21. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

1SAM 26:12. So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.

D. Rest in the Lord & sleep through anything:

EZE 34:25. And I will make with them a covenant of peace, and will cause the evil beasts to cease out of the land: and they shall dwell safely in the wilderness, and sleep in the woods.

MAT 8:24. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
