A. Don't oversleep when you should be working:PRO 6:9. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? PRO 6:10. Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: PRO 6:11. So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. PRO 24:33. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame. PRO 20:13. Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. D. Oversleeping can be caused by laziness or unconcern for others:PRO 19:15. Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger. ISA 56:10. His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. ISA 56:11. Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. E. Sleep can symbolise spiritual insensitivity:ROM 13:11. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. ROM 13:12. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. EPH 5:14. Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 1TH 5:4. But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. 1TH 5:5. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. 1TH 5:6. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 1TH 5:7.
