PreviousNext

A. For your spiritual battles defending the faith:

JUD 1:3. Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you

of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you,

and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith

which was once delivered unto the saints.

2COR 10:3. For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

2COR 10:4. (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

2COR 10:5. Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

1COR 10:11. Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

B. If you must physically defend your loved ones or country:

C. Fleshly might is no match for the power of God:

1SA 17:45. Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

HOS 1:7. But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.

D. They may seem strong but their strength has departed:

2CH 25:8. But if thou wilt go, do it; be strong for the battle: God shall make thee fall before the enemy: for God hath power to help, and to cast down.

PSA 33:16. There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

PSA 33:17. An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

PSA 35:10. All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?

PSA 44:3. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them.

PSA 44:4. Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob.

PSA 44:5. Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

PSA 44:6. For I will not trust in my bow, neither shall my sword save me.

PSA 44:7. But thou hast saved us from our enemies, and hast put them to shame that hated us.

F. You are not to trust in fleshly might to fight your foes:

2KI 18:21. Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, on which if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.

And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude.
