8. The right attitude toward suffering:

JOB 13:15. Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

PHI 3:8. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

A. Endure suffering patiently:

JER 10:19. Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous; but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.

LAM 3:24. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

LAM 3:25. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

LAM 3:26. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

ROM 12:12. Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

2TI 4:5. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

HEB 12:7. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

1PE 4:19. Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.

B. Pray for strength to endure suffering:

LUK 18:1. And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

JAM 5:13. Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

C. We should expect afflictions & trials:

PSA 34:19. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

ACT 14:22. Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

1TH 3:3. That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.

1TH 3:4. For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

1PE 4:12. Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

1CO 10:13. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

1PE 5:9. Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

D. Stand strong endure hardness:

ACT 20:23. Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions abide me.

ACT 20:24. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

2TI 2:3. Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

HEB 11:25. Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

HEB 11:26. Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.

HEB 11:27. By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

JAM 5:10. Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

JAM 5:11. Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

E. Be happy despite sufferings:

JOH 16:33. These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

ROM 5:3. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

2CO 7:4. Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

1PE 4:13. But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

1PE 4:16. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.

F. Don't murmur against God:

JOB 1:20. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,

JOB 1:21. And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.

JOB 1:22. In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.

PSA 17:3. Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

1TH 5:18. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

G. Remain faithful:

PSA 119:143. Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me: yet thy commandments are my delights.
