PreviousNext

A. Refrain from corrupt communication:

PRO 4:24. Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.

EPH 4:29. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

EPH 5:4. Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

COL 3:8. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

1TI 6:20. O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

B. Speak edifying things not corrupt:

EPH 4:29. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

COL 4:6. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

TIT 2:8. Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

PRO 8:8. All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

PRO 8:9. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

ROM 15:2. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

C. You can't control your own tongue by yourself:

JAM 3:8. But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

D. Only God can so yield to Him:

PSA 45:1. My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.

PRO 16:1. The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.

ISA 50:4. The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

LUK 12:12. For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

1PE 4:11. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

E. Read & obey God's Word & let it change you:

PSA 119:9. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

JOH 15:3. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

PRO 6:21. Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck.

PRO 6:22. When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

PRO 6:23. For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

HEB 10:22. Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
