The Power of the Tongue

7. The punishment for gossiping:
PreviousNext

A. Scriptural response to backbiters & talebearers:

TIT 1:10. For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:

TIT 1:11. Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre's sake.

PSA 32:9. Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

PRO 25:23. The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

B. Part company with them if they don't change:

PSA 101:5. Whoso privily slandereth his neighbour, him will I cut off: him that hath an high look and a proud heart will not I suffer.

PSA 101:7. He that worketh deceit shall not dwell within my house: he that telleth lies shall not tarry in my sight.

PRO 20:19. He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

PRO 22:10. Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

PRO 26:20. Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

C. The Lord will judge them:

MAT 12:36. But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

MAT 12:37. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
