A. For the sake of lost souls:2TI 2:10. Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. ISA 53:10. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. ISA 53:11. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. ISA 53:12. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. B. Because you'll be spiritually stronger as a result:2CO 4:16. For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. 2CO 12:9. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2CO 12:10. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. C. Because God will reward you after testing you:PSA 66:12. Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place. HEB 12:11. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby. JAM 5:11. Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. JOB 42:10. And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. JOB 42:11. Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold. JOB 42:12. So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses. JOB 42:13. He had also seven sons and three daughters. JOB 42:14. And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch. JOB 42:15. And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren. JOB 42:16. After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations. JOB 42:17. So Job died, being old and full of days. PSA 118:5. I called upon the LORD in distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place. LAM 3:32. But though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. D. Heavenly rewards:ROM 8:18. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 2CO 4:17. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory; JAM 1:12. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. 1PE 4:13. But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 1JOH 2:17. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. REV 21:7. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. |
