A. How to help them:JOB 6:14. To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty. JOB 19:21. Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me. ROM 15:1. We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. ROM 15:2. Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. 1CO 12:25. That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 1CO 12:26. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. GAL 6:2. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. HEB 13:3. Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body. B. Encourage & strengthen them:JOB 16:4. I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul's stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you. JOB 16:5. But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief. ISA 50:4. The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. PRO 12:25. Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad. C. Admonish them with hearty counsel:PRO 27:9. Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel. COL 3:16. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. |
