A. From our own lusts:JAM 1:13. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: JAM 1:14. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 1JOH 2:15. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1JOH 2:16. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. B. They are also instigated by the devil:GEN 3:1. Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? GEN 3:2. And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: GEN 3:3. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. GEN 3:4. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: GEN 3:5. For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. GEN 3:6. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. GEN 3:13. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. 1CH 21:1. And Satan stood up against Israel, and provoked David to number Israel. 1CH 21:7. And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. 1CH 21:8. And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, because I have done this thing: but now, I beseech thee, do away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. MAT 4:1. Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. MAT 4:2. And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred. MAT 4:3. And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread. MAT 4:4. But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. MAT 4:5. Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, MAT 4:6. And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. MAT 4:7. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. LUK 22:31. And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 1TH 3:5. For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain. 2CO 11:3. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. |
