Trials, Temptations & Tribulations

10. Avoiding temptation:
PreviousNext

MAT 6:13. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

A. Avoid the pathway to temptation:

PRO 4:14. Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.

PRO 4:15. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.

MAT 7:13. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

MAT 7:14. Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

2TI 2:22. Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

B. Beware of those who would entice you:

PSA 1:1. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

PSA 1:2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

PRO 1:10. My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not.

PRO 16:29. A violent man enticeth his neighbour, and leadeth him into the way that is not good.

2PE 3:17. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

PRO 22:24. Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:

PRO 22:25. Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.

2PE 2:18. For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.

2PE 2:19. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

C. Know your weaknesses & be on guard against them:

ROM 13:14. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

GAL 6:1. Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

D. Warning re: evil beguiling influences & entertainment:

DEU 7:25. The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therin: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

DEU 7:26. Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.

PSA 101:3. I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.

PSA 106:35. But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

PSA 106:36. And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

2CO 11:3. But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

2PE 2:7. And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

2PE 2:8. For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds.
