The Word of God


7. What the Word does for us:

A. Saves us & gives us spiritual rebirth:

PSA 19:7. The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

JAM 1:18. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

JAM 1:21. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

1PE 1:23. Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

2PE 1:4. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

B. The Word gives us faith truth wisdom & strength:

ROM 10:17. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

PSA 19:7. The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple.

PSA 119:99. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

PSA 119:100. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

JOH 15:7. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

JOH 17:17. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

ACT 20:32. And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.

2TIM 3:15. And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

2TIM 3:16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2TIM 3:17. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

C. Meditating in the Word causes prosperity & success:

JOSH 1:8. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

PSA 1:2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

PSA 1:3. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

1TIM 4:15. Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.

D. The Word guides us & is a light to our path:

PSA 19:8. The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes.

PSA 25:10. All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.

PSA 119:105. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

PSA 119:130. The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

E. The Word cleanses us spiritually:

PSA 119:9. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

JOH 15:3. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

EPH 5:25. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

EPH 5:26. That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

JOH 17:17. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

F. Other things the Word does for us:

PSA 107:20. He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

PSA 119:11. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

PSA 119:165. Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.

JER 15:16. Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

JOH 8:31. Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

JOH 8:32. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

1TH 2:13. For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

2TIM 3:16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

2TIM 3:17. That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

HEB 4:12. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
